Oroville Fire Tower Residence

Oroville, WA

Perched high above the landscape in Oroville, Washington, this compact residence takes inspiration from the historic fire lookout towers scattered throughout the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. The home rises vertically from the site, culminating in an elevated living level and wraparound deck designed to capture the extraordinary reach of the surrounding landscape.

From its elevated vantage point, views extend toward the Cascade Mountains, north toward Canada, and across the open terrain of Central Washington. Like the fire towers that inspired it, the architecture is shaped around observation—lifting the primary living spaces above the ground and opening them outward in every direction.

A broad, sheltering roof and continuous outdoor terrace reinforce the lookout-like character of the upper level, while the more enclosed lower stories anchor the home to the hillside. The result is a contemporary interpretation of a familiar regional structure: a home designed not simply to sit within the landscape, but to provide a place from which to experience its immense scale.
