Contemporary Wenatchee Home

A hand drawn concept sketch of the project design. The sketch illustrates the irregular lot shape and shows how the building shape responds to the lot shape. It also illustrates passive lighting strategies.
Part of our schematic design phase explores multiple different design options that achieve the same project goals. This gives our clients a feel for the variety in design that is possible.
A hand sketch showing the programatic pieces of the custom residence. It takes into account dimension requirements while prioritizing the relationship between different masses.
All houses start as sketches and develop into floor plans and three-dimensional models that resemble a home.
A finished floor plan showing each room with their labels. You can understand that there are two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a garage on the left mass of the floor plan. There are two other masses. The second is perpendicular and has the commons spaces like the kitchen dining and living rooms, as well as a big deck. the third and final mass is on the right and has the owner's suite.

Project Description:

Nestled into the scenic hillside of Wenatchee, Washington, this contemporary residence harmonizes modern design with the natural contours of its environment. The project embodies the perfect balance between aesthetic refinement, structural innovation, and a profound connection to the surrounding landscape.

The home’s elevated placement on a sloping site offers sweeping views of the Wenatchee Valley while preserving the natural terrain. Designed to sit lightly on the land, the structure is supported by thoughtfully positioned stilts, minimizing ground disturbance and maintaining the integrity of the hillside. This approach not only enhances the home’s environmental sensitivity but also creates a dynamic architectural silhouette.

The residence boasts expansive windows and strategically placed openings to maximize daylight and frame breathtaking views. The open-plan design emphasizes fluidity, with a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The large deck, extending from the main living area, acts as a natural extension of the home, inviting residents to immerse themselves in the tranquil beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

Inside, clean lines and a neutral palette create a serene atmosphere, allowing the views to take center stage. Vaulted ceilings and clerestory windows enhance the sense of spaciousness, while carefully selected materials add warmth and texture to the contemporary aesthetic.

A commitment to sustainability is evident throughout the project. The home incorporates energy-efficient glazing, advanced insulation, and a passive solar design strategy to optimize energy use. The elevated structure enhances airflow, reducing the need for mechanical cooling during the warmer months. Materials were chosen with durability and environmental impact in mind, ensuring the home’s longevity in the face of Wenatchee’s varied climate.

Every aspect of the home has been designed to cater to the modern lifestyle while respecting the site’s unique characteristics. The interior layout prioritizes functionality and flexibility, with private spaces carefully zoned to ensure privacy without sacrificing connectivity. Outdoor living is celebrated through the expansive deck and terraces, which offer space for relaxation, entertainment, and contemplation of the surrounding natural beauty.

This hillside home is a testament to the firm’s dedication to creating architecture that is both timeless and innovative. It reflects an understanding of Wenatchee’s regional context, with design elements that celebrate the area’s unique topography and climate. The result is a residence that not only enhances its surroundings but also provides a sanctuary for its inhabitants—a place where modern living meets the tranquility of nature.

This project is an excellent example of how contemporary architecture can thrive on challenging terrain. By embracing the site’s natural attributes, this home achieves an effortless blend of design and environment, setting a new standard for hillside living in Wenatchee.
