The Lake Chelan Overlook Residence was developed through two distinct architectural strategies, each responding to the steep hillside site and expansive lake views in a different way. While both options prioritize view orientation, outdoor living, and strong connection to the terrain, their organizing concepts reflect unique approaches to massing and circulation.

Option A is conceived as a folded bar that bends with the contours of the hillside. The parti diagram reflects this angular shift, creating a primary volume that aligns with the strongest view corridor while allowing a secondary wing to anchor into the slope. This configuration establishes a protected courtyard condition between the masses and reinforces a clear hierarchy between public and private zones. The stepped massing reduces the perceived scale from the uphill approach and allows the home to cascade naturally down the site. Exterior terraces and the infinity-edge pool extend from the main living level, visually projecting toward the lake while remaining integrated into the hillside. The result is a composition that feels grounded, layered, and responsive to topography.

Option B explores a more linear organizational strategy. The parti illustrates a strong horizontal spine with perpendicular volumes that branch from it, creating a series of connected yet distinct architectural moments and spaces. This approach emphasizes procession and axial alignment, guiding movement along a central circulation bar that frames views outward at key points. The massing reads as more elongated across the slope, reinforcing a terraced relationship to the landscape. Outdoor loggias and covered spaces are carved from the primary volume, forming sheltered transitions between interior and exterior environments. This option prioritizes clarity of form and spatial rhythm, with the hillside acting as a backdrop to the architecture’s horizontal expression.

Both concepts embody a site-specific approach to custom residential design on Lake Chelan. By responding directly to slope, orientation, and view corridors, each option offers a refined balance between shelter and openness—demonstrating how thoughtful architectural strategy can shape the experience of living along the water while remaining grounded in the terrain.
