Wenatchee River Cabin

Location: Leavenworth, WA
Area: 1,500 SF
Architect: Refine Design Architecture
This custom home in Leavenworth, WA is thoughtfully crafted for the realities of mountain living, where snow, flood, and fire resilience shape every design decision. The house is elevated on a raised foundation, a strategy that serves a dual purpose: in winter, the snow base remains well below the window line, preserving light and views; in spring, floodwaters can move beneath the structure without threatening the living spaces above.
The home’s form is defined by a striking asymmetrical gable plane, its slope designed to shed heavy snow efficiently and direct it away from the foundation. At its core, a massive stone chimney and column provide both structural anchoring and visual weight, rooting the house firmly to its forested site. This stone element acts as a counterpoint to the lighter planes of wood and panel siding, balancing solidity with warmth.
Cladding materials throughout are Class A fire-resistive, selected not only for durability but also for safety in a wildfire-prone region. The palette of stone, wood, and vertical siding connects the home to its mountain setting while maintaining a refined architectural expression. Together, these elements create a dwelling that is equal parts protective and inviting—a house designed to endure the challenges of its environment while offering comfort, light, and a deep sense of place.
